Another busy month at Chumbaria. Our son Tom and his girlfriend Melina came to stay and they got straight to work. Melina was our first ever volunteer and she met Tom when he came to volunteer in September 2021.
They have both been a great help in a time of need. Weeding, digging, composting, dog walking, cooking, cleaning, planting and helping to install an updated irrigation system. The list is endless. Mel even had a go at dog grooming Stanley!
The weather has been mixed, but luckily good enough for work to progress on the buildings.
The builders put the shuttering and steel frames in place and the cement truck returned to Chumbaria. The pouring of the cement was a major operation and somewhat of a jeopardy moment. Although the road through the village is a public highway, it was designed more for a donkey and cart. The trucks that come through to deliver wood or pour cement, only manage to get through with millimeters to spare, so it’s always a nail-biting process.
Thankfully these guys know what they’re doing and manage to navigate the road without knocking down any of the houses. The next phase is the first new roof in Chumbaria, which is very exciting for us.
